The images in this series were taken as a response to two things. One, I am very shy by nature. And two, I was not born, nor was I raised, in the places where I live. I am a shy stranger in an alien land. Sometimes I feel like the opposite of an anthropologist. You know, like I am the primitive one visiting the vast and complex modern world. I try to observe people around me (many of whom likely feel the same sense of alienation). These images were extracted from photographs I took of crowded streets. I wanted to look at each person. I wanted to make each person real.
