After looking at the original slides taken as part of the Times Square Portrait project, I was struck by how quiet the images were. The images, in short, became separated in a profound way from the reality of the space. Times Square is noisy, crowded, and intense. The images were quiet and contemplative. I thougth about that for a while and felt that although it was good that these images, arranged as they were in a book, existed in that calm space, I wanted to take them back to the chaos and intensity of the original Times Square.
